Recently announced as the new co-captain of Bivouac, we sat down with Marreese Speights to find out what his expectations, goals and aspirations with the BIG3 are.
Q: How excited are you to join the BIG3?
A: I am very excited to join this league. Cube and his staff have done an amazing job to make sure the BIG3 was one of the best sporting platforms for players. It was amazing how they did that in such a short period of time.
Q: What ultimately made you want to join?
A: I wanted to play because I miss the game. The BIG3 also allows me the opportunity to run the businesses I have while playing the game at a high level. I also joined because I believe it’s the best place for me to get back into the NBA.
Q: You’ve got a good team with Josh Smith, Will Bynum and coach Reggie Theus. How do you think you’ll fit with those guys and how much have you been talking with them about the upcoming season?
A: We have a good team already with guys who played at the highest level for many years like myself. The main goal is to win it all and we have all the parts to do that. I know those guys’ games and I know what I bring, so it’s going to be great fit and a great season for us.
Q: What’s your ultimate goal in the league?
A: My goal is to go out there, hoop, have fun in front of the amazing fans. This isn’t no vacation…I’m giving my all, 110% anytime I step on that floor.
Q: What has it been like being away from the game? What have you been doing?
A: I’ve just been kind-of recharging after playing in China. It’s been a restart button in my career. That’s why I am happy to go through the grind of getting into the best shape I can and go out to perform in front of the fans. I’m 32 years old with a lot of game left! I can’t wait man.
