These selections are made based on a panel of experts.
1. Triplets (No Change)
The reigning champs did not disappoint with a convincing win against the Bivouac. The Triplets won 51-39 on the back of 27 points and 12 boards from Joe Johnson. Iso Joe started up right where he left off last season: getting buckets. Jannero Pargo also chipped in 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Head coach Lisa Leslie seemed to have the team firing on all cylinders for their first appearance of the season, looking like the most prepared team. Is an undefeated ahead of them?
2021 Record (1-0)
Week 2 matchup: Triplets vs Power
2. Power (Up 2)
Power jump up two spots from number 4 to number 2 with an impressive win over the Enemies. Cuttino Mobley leaned on his BIG3 experience and was on fire in the first game of the season. He had 26 points and made 6 three pointers and 1 four pointer. Royce White also chipped in with a double double, charting 13 points and 11 rebounds. Power looked really impressive in their first game of the season and we will see how they matchup with the Triplets in Week 2 in what will undoubtedly be the game of the week.
2021 Record (1-0)
Week 2 matchup: Triplets vs Power
3. 3 Headed Monsters (Up 2)
The Monsters started their season on the right foot with a win over Tri-State this weekend. It took The Monsters a half to warm up as both teams started with sloppy shooting, but ultimately they won convincingly 50-39. Kevin Muphy and Rashard Lewis led the way for the Monsters, each posting an impressive first game of the season. Murphy had 19 points and 5 boards while Lewis had a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The 7’6″ phenom Mamadou N’diaye had a couple blocks in the game and he will look to get more involved and use his size as the season goes on.
2021 Record (1-0)
Week 2 matchup: Trilogy vs 3 Headed Monsters
4. Ball Hogs (Up 5)
For the first time in league history, the Ball Hogs have a winning record. Leandro Barbosa led the team to a win over 3’s Company by a score of 50-41. Barbosa scored 22 points and had 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Jodie Meeks also got it going with 18 points. If the big men for the Ball Hogs become consistent on the offensive side of the ball, this team is going to be a scary opponent for anyone.
2021 Record (1-0)
Week 2 matchup: Ball Hogs vs Aliens
5. Ghost Ballers (Up 3)
The Ghost Ballers had an impressive win over the Aliens in their first game of the season. Mike Taylor and Chris Johnson were the standout performers for the team. Taylor dropped 20 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. Johnson added 19 points and 8 rebounds. If those two can continue playing like that, the Ghost Ballers will be a problem for teams this year.
2021 Record (1-0)
Week 2 matchup: Enemies vs Ghost Ballers
6. Trilogy (Up 1)
The Trilogy looked impressive in their first game of the new season. They brought in a few new faces that did not disappoint. Isaiah Briscoe took over the game scoring a league leading 28 points. Briscoe also added 6 rebounds while showing off his impressive handles and jumper. New captain Jarrett Jack looked like his old self with 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. The new look Trilogy will definitely be a force down the line this season.
2021 Record (1-0)
Week 2 matchup: Trilogy vs 3 Headed Monsters
7. Bivouac (Down 5)
Bivouac had a tough first game of the season facing off against the reigning champs led by the reigning MVP. They lost 51-39. The first half was not kind to them being down 12 points at half time, but they battled and stayed bucket for bucket with the Triplets in the second half. Will Bynum led the way for Bivouac with 23 points and 9 rebounds. It was really a one man show for Bivouac in the first week of the season. They will look to get some more help for Bynum for the rest of the season, but if they don’t, this could be a long season.
2021 Record (0-1)
Week 2 matchup: Tri-State vs Bivouac
8. Enemies (Down 5)
The Enemies were the most hyped up team coming into 2021 and they still have a ton of potential. The story of the day was first overall pick in the draft Isaiah Austin who showed out for his team dropping 24 points and 7 rebounds. But the feel good story of the day wasn’t enough to win the game. Elijah Stewart also chipped in 11 points and made 3 three pointers. The Enemies lost a close game to the strong Power 51-46. They will look to get Nick Young more involved in the coming weeks after a very quiet week 1 from him. It’s a disappointing start, but don’t expect the Enemies to stay down long.
2021 Record (0-1)
Week 2 matchup: Enemies vs Ghost Ballers
9. Tri-State (Down 3)
Tri-State kept it close in the first half against the 3 Headed Monsters in a cloppy game, but couldn’t keep up that pace in the second. They lost 50-39. Earl Clark led the way for Tri-State with 14 points, but he was the only double digit scorer for the team. Tri-State are a team with very capable scorers so this was definitely an off game for them. We don’t expect them to shoot this poorly going forward, but until they prove themselves, they will continue to live in the bottom half of the rankings.
2021 Record (0-1)
Week 2 matchup: Tri-State vs Bivouac
10. Aliens (No Change)
Aliens had a close matchup with the Ghost Ballers, but they couldn’t pull out the win. They lost the matchup 51 to 45. Renaldo Balkman had an impressive game, posting a double double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Shannon Brown also had 10 points. The Aliens will look to get more scoring from Brandon Rush, who led the league in made 3 pointers in 2019. He is definitely someone who can get hot in a hurry so don’t count the Aliens out just yet.
2021 Record (0-1)
Week 2 matchup: Ball Hogs vs Aliens
11. Killer 3’s (No Change)
Killer 3’s had a tough game against Trilogy. They kept it close in the first half, but the Trilogy were too much to handle and they pulled away in the second. It was a one man show on offense for the Killer 3’s with Donte Green dropping 26 points. He also added 6 rebounds. The quick Frank Nitty had a disappointing first game and will look to get more involved on the offensive end in the coming weeks. He scored 4 points and had 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Killer 3’s will look to bounce back in a week 2 matchup with 3’s Company.
2021 Record (0-1)
Week 2 matchup: Killer 3’s vs 3’s Company
12. 3’s Company (No Change)
It was an emotional Week 1 for Michael Cooper’s 3’s Company, as the league honored former player Andre Emmett. But the match-up against the historically bad Ball Hogs did not go as planned. 3’s Company went down 11 quick, before fighting back to take the lead 41-40. But the defense failed as the Ball Hogs ended the game on a 10-0 run to keep 3’s Company at the bottom of the rankings. Jeremy Pargo was the leading scorer with 16 points. He also made two 4 pointers. Pargo was the only double digit scorer for 3’s company this weekend. 3’s Company have a roster of very capable scorers, so they will look to get more involved in their week 2 matchup with the Killer 3’s.
