DerMarr Johnson has been with 3’s Company since the beginning. In 2021, the resilient wing will return to the team for the fourth consecutive year, and for the third year as team captain, demonstrating heart and commitment to his team.
Last season, he and the late, great Andre Emmett led 3’s Company in 4-pointers made. The longtime captain has a knack for showing up in big moments, as evidenced by the team’s victory over Trilogy to close the regular season. In that game, Johnson smashed his 3.9 points-per-game average, pouring in 11 clutch points.
In 2018, Johnson demonstrated leadership and fearlessness, and was never afraid to take a four-point shot. He helped 3’s Company make their first ever finals appearance, where they put up a valiant fight against Power, coming within 9 points of victory.
After attending the University of Cincinnati, Johnson was the sixth overall pick of the Atlanta Hawks in the 2000 NBA Draft. In two seasons with the Hawks, he averaged 7.6 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. In September 2002, Johnson sustained serious injuries in a car accident. However, after a full recovery he moved on to the ABA’s Long Beach Jam, where he played 19 games before signing a contract with the Knicks in his return to the NBA. After that, Johnson played overseas for half a decade.
