Smith was born in College Park, Georgia, where he grew up. He eventually transferred to Oak Hill Academy and became a McDonald’s All-American.
Smith is a strong, powerful and imposing player with a wide variety of post-moves and offensive versatility. The former 2004 first-round pick played in the NBA for 14 seasons with the Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks with Triplets player Joe Johnson, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers and New Orleans Pelicans. Over his NBA career he averaged 14.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, and he was the youngest player in the NBA to record 10 blocked shots in a game.
