The Ball Hogs add size and experience to their 2021 roster, as Spencer Hawes joins the team for his first BIG3 season.
The 7’1” center had a 10-season NBA career, playing for the Sacramento Kings, Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Clippers, Charlotte Hornets and Milwaukee Bucks. He averaged 8.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.0 block per game over the course of his career.
Hawes started making headlines in 2006, when he was a consensus All-American and led his high school basketball team, Seattle Prep, to the Washington state championship. He committed to the University of Washington, where his uncle (Steve) and father (Jeff) both played basketball. Hawes was the Huskies’ leading scorer as a freshman, averaging 14.9 points per game and setting a freshman scoring record at the school, and turned pro after one season. He was picked 10th overall in the 2007 draft by the Kings.
Hawes had a strong postseason showing for the 2011-12 76ers, averaging 9.3 points and 6.6 rebounds in 13 games as Philadelphia reached the Eastern Conference semifinals, losing to the Boston Celtics in 7 games. Shortly after, he achieved a career-best scoring average of 13.2 points per game in the 2013-14 season while splitting time between the Sixers and the Cavaliers.
Hawes concluded his NBA career with the Bucks in 2017. He signed with the G League’s South Bay Lakers in 2019.
