Triplets.
In their second season in the BIG3 Triplets were contenders again, holding the top spot on the standings until the final week of the regular season. Triplets ended up falling to 3 Headed Monsters in the semi-finals of the 2021 playoffs.
The entire Triplets’ roster—led by Joe Johnson, the team’s prolific captain—returned intact for the 2021 season. Lisa Leslie coached the team again in 2021. Longtime NBA players Jannero Pargo and Al Jefferson returned as co-captains, with Jamario Moon, Alan Anderson and Sergerio Gipson rounding out the depth of the team.
In 2019 Joe Johnson and Triplets entered the league as newcomers and ended the season as champions. With Johnson earning MVP honors and rookie coach Lisa Leslie taking home the Coach of the Year trophy, the Triplets were the class of the BIG3 in their inaugural season.
Johnson (21.9 points per game) shattered the BIG3’s scoring record in 2019 with 175 points and was among the league’s best in a majority of statistical categories. After leading the Triplets to a 7-1 regular season, he saved his best for last, scoring 28 points in the team’s 50-39 victory over Killer 3s in the BIG3 championship game. Moon, a midseason acquisition, had nine rebounds in that triumph while Jefferson was a menacing presence while patrolling the paint. Joe Johnson continued his brilliant play into the 2021 season where he won MVP for the second straight season. Johnson was the only player to average more than 20 points and 10 rebounds per game in the 2021 season.
