After two games of action the 2021 BIG3 Championship teams are set
Game 1: Triplets 39 vs 3 Headed Monsters 51
The first game of the 2021 Playoffs was a matchup between the reigning BIG3 Champs Triplets and 3 Headed Monsters. Both teams came into Saturday with the expectation of making the championship. The 3 Headed Monsters got revenge after the regular season loss and beat the reigning champs 51-39. 3 Headed Monsters move on to the Championship game. The first half started strong for both teams, trading buckets back and forth. Triplets Joe Johnson got in foul trouble early and missed a portion of the first half.
The 2nd Half was not kind to the Triplets. The 3 Headed Monsters played some lockdown defense and managed to go on a 21-2 run. Kevin Murphy led all scorers with 29 points and 8 rebounds. Murphy was also efficient shooting the ball at 12-17 and 3 Headed Monsters shot better than 50% as a team. Rashard Lewis was also a big factor in this game finishing with 12 points and 2 boards. Triplets guard Jannero Pargo led the team with 20 points. Iso Joe couldn’t get it going in the game finishing with a season low eight points. Triplets struggled shooting in the game at 30%. After 4 straight years of reaching the playoffs the 3 Headed Monsters are moving on to the Championship Game and face-off with Trilogy.
Game 2: Tri-State 42 vs Trilogy 50
The second game of the 2021 Playoffs featured the #1 seed Tri-State against #4 seed Trilogy. Jarrett Jack had to fill in as player/coach with Stephen Jackson missing for the first playoff game. Trilogy won 50-42 on a game winning three from Jarrett Jack. Jarrett Jack set the new single game scoring record in the BIG3 with 35 points and was also efficient. Jack shot 14-25 and 5-11 from three point range. Outside of Jack, Trilogy forward James White added 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win. If Jack continues to play like he did today, Trilogy will be a major threat to 3 Headed Monsters in the Championship.
Tri-State forward, Earl Clark led the team with 18 points and 9 rebounds in the loss. Tri-State battled every possession and made a comeback down the stretch but wasn’t enough to take down Trilogy. Tri-State struggled shooting in the game at 16-50 or 32%. Jason Richardson also couldn’t get it going in the game and finished with zero points after an MVP caliber season. Tri-State really had no answer for the offense Jack brought to the game. Justin Dentmon had 12 points off the bench for Tri-State, but they came up short. Trilogy and the 3 Headed Monsters are set for the 2021 championship on September 4th.
