It’s been a fantastic year, and it’s about to get even better. Here’s where the teams stand going into what is going to be an absolutely insane finish to the regular season.
TIER 1: The 5-2 Crew
Killer 3’s (5-2):
This team can win in just about every way imaginable. They often play off Frank Nitty, but last week they got past Power with an extremely balanced offensive performance – they can score in the paint and out on the perimeter, and they can play a quick-passing, uptempo game or slow it down and try to exploit mismatches. One thing that never changes is their intensity level – they put their opponents in the pressure cooker every week.
Triplets (5-2):
After a red-hot start to the season, Jeremy Pargo has come back to earth a bit in recent weeks. Joe Johnson is capable of taking this team to the top on his own, but when Pargo is hitting on all cylinders, the Triplets become nearly unstoppable.
Trilogy (5-2):
This team has a knack for finding incredible guards. They didn’t miss a beat when Isaiah Briscoe stepped in for Jarrett Jack after the latter’s retirement last season. This season, Briscoe has been forced to miss some games, but Ryan “Hezi God” Carter has taken the league by storm in his absence, and may very well lead the team to its third consecutive championship in his BIG3 rookie year.
TIER 2: Sitting at 4-3
Enemies (4-3):
How well has Jordan Crawford shot the ball this season? Even though he finally had an off shooting game last week, going 6-19 from the field and 0-5 from three, he’s still shooting 50% from the field and 56.3% from three-point range on the season. And most of his shots are contested or off the dribble! I’m convinced he could make a 25-footer if he was underwater.
Power (4-3):
Some good news for Power: they’ve played a ton of playoff teams over the season, which means they’ll have an advantage in many of the potential tiebreak scenarios that could take place. They should have more control over their own destiny than any other 4-3 team will.
Ball Hogs (4-3):
It’s hard not to root for the Ball Hogs to finally break through and end their playoff drought, especially since their wins were so convincing and two of their losses were absolute heartbreakers. They’ll need one more win and a bit of luck, but the dream is definitely till alive.
Ghost Ballers (4-3):
The Ghost Ballers’ offense has been pretty dependent on Mike Taylor this season. Taylor is fantastic, and there’s nothing wrong with running an offense through him, but I wouldn’t mind seeing some of their other players be a little more assertive, especially the ludicrously talented Chris Johnson.
TIER 3: Looking to Spoil
Tri State (3-4):
It is technically mathematically possible for Tri State to make the playoffs, but they should mostly be focused on putting in a solid performance and ending the season on a high note. Tri State have always shown lots of discipline and professionalism with Jason Richardson as captain, and should be expected to put in a good effort on Sunday.
