BIG3 Championship Preview
By BIG3 September 2, 2021
Tune in Saturday, September 4th at 3:30 PM ET on CBS for the Championship from the Bahamas.
We are down to the final two teams in the last week of the 2021 BIG3 Season. Trilogy and 3 Headed Monsters are looking to secure their rings.
Trilogy (6-3) vs 3 Headed Monsters (7-2)
Trilogy Captain: Jarrett Jack
3 Headed Monsters Captain: Rashard Lewis
Trilogy and 3 Headed Monsters have clawed their way to the championship and now sit within one win of a ring. The leading scorers for each team are Jarrett Jack (Trilogy) and Kevin Murphy (3 Headed Monsters). Jack and Murphy will likely be matched up on each other during the game. Jack averaged 20 points per game in the regular season. Murphy has the slight edge over Jack at 20.5 points per game. In the first round of the playoffs both Jack and Murphy showed up when it mattered most. Jack had a big 30+ point effort to get Trilogy over the line. Murphy had 29 in their game to take down the reigning champ Triplets.
Both teams wouldn’t have made it to the finals without the rest of their rosters. Trilogy got strong contributions the whole season from James White, Amir Johnson and Isaiah Briscoe. In their playoff win, James White had a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Amir Johnson also had 11 rebounds in the game.
3 Headed Monsters have gotten great production from big man Reggie Evans. Evans has been one of the most dominant players in the BIG3 this season. Evans averaged a double double with 14.5 points and 11.6 rebounds. The 11.6 rebounds per game led the BIG3 this season. 3 Headed Monsters captain Rashard Lewis averaged just under 10 points per game this season, but he is a player who has a big impact on both offense and defense. Lewis played most of the defense on Joe Johnson last week and held him to a season low eight points.
The expected matchups for the championship are Jarrett Jack and Kevin Murphy. James White and Rashard Lewis. Amir Johnson and Reggie Evans. Off the bench, look for Isaiah Briscoe and Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf to get involved.
Briscoe has been a consistent player of the bench for Trilogy this season. He started the season scoring a lot, but recently has been quiet. He is a player that will need to get it going if Trilogy are going to win this game. Briscoe not only can be a force on offense, he plays strong defense on whoever he is guarding.
In week 2 of the season, Trilogy beat 3 Headed Monsters 50-43. Trilogy had three players in double digit scoring, while Kevin Murphy was the only one in double digits for 3 Headed Monsters.
The championship is definitely going to deliver some fireworks. Will the 3 Headed Monsters get revenge after they lost to Trilogy in the 2017 Inaugural BIG3 Championship? Tune in Saturday at 3:30 PM ET on CBS to find out!
