With the 2021 BIG3 season looming the competition is looking stronger than ever. New stars look to make their mark while familiar faces look to solidify their legacies. 12 teams will have 10 weeks to claim top dog in the Bahamas. But it all starts in Las Vegas on July 10th (CBS @ 12:30p ET/Triller @ 3p ET).
Here’s how we see next season now — from 1 to 12.
1. Triplets
They’re the reigning champs and there’s no reason to think they can’t repeat as 2019 BIG3 MVP Joe Johnson returns with Coach of the year Lisa Leslie. A new face to the roster in Jamario Moon looks to make the reigning champs even better, bringing a confident bravado and a team first attitude. In a recent interview, Jamario called Joe Johnson the “Michael Jordan of the Big3.” If Joe Johnson can average 22 points per game again this season, there’s no reason to think he’s wrong.
Last Season Record (7-1)
2. Bivouac
After a 4-4 2019 season, Bivouac added Alonzo Gee and Julian Wright in the draft. Bivouac are looking to take a big step forward this year with returning captain Josh Smith and co-captains Will Bynum and Marreese Speights. Bynum will look to add on to an impressive offensive performance in the 2019 season after being in the top 10 in scoring while averaging 18 points per game. In 2019 Bivouac had at least one player in the top 10 in every statistical category. If they can replicate those kind of stats and close out some close matchups, they will be a force this season.
Last Season Record (4-4)
3. Enemies
The Enemies are poised to make the biggest jump out of anyone this season after going 3-5 in 2019. With new addition and captain Nick Young leading the team, the Enemies have high expectations for the season. Perry Jones returns to the Enemies for the 2021 season to build off his 2019 campaign. Gilbert Arenas makes his coaching debut for the Enemies this season after playing for the team in 2019. The new additions to the Enemies is what makes them a real threat going into the season. Elijah Stewart is the all time leader in thees made at USC. The Enemies also drafted Isaiah Austin and Jordan Hill who are both poised to make a strong impact on the team.
Last Season Record (3-5)
4. Power
In 2019 the Power made it to the consolation game for third place and lost to the 3 Headed Monsters. That was off the back of a championship season in 2018. Cuttino Mobley returns as captain of the team alongside co-captain Big Baby Davis. Royce White has joined the Power ad he looks to have a strong season. In the draft the Power added Joe Alexander and Dusan Bulut who both bring a ton of experience from their time playing overseas. Bulut is the number one ranked FIBA 3 on 3 player in the world, so the Power got their hands on a gem in the draft.
Last Season Record (5-3)
5. 3 Headed Monsters
The 3 Headed Monsters are another team that made gains in the draft. After their 4-4 2019 season the 3 Headed Monsters had to add size, and they did that. Mamadou N’Diaye fills that hole in the team perfectly. Standing at over seven foot three, he is going to be a problem around the rim. Captain Rashard Lewis and co-captains Reggie Evans and Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf all return for the 3 Headed Monsters. Reggie Evans lead the league in rebounding last season with an average of 11 per game. Kevin Murphy, another draft player, will look to add to the guard play of the team. With a well rounded roster the Monsters are looking up this season.
Last Season Record (4-4)
6. Tri-State
Coached by the legendary Dr. J, Tri-State will look to improve on a 4-4 season in 2019. Captain Nate Robinson and co-captain Jason Richardson are the only returning members of Tri-State. Joining Tri-State this season is Larry Sanders who will provide an extra layer to the defense. Tri-State acquired Tony Wroten and Earl Clark in the draft who both bring NBA experience to the BIG3. Nate Robinson will look to keep bringing that high energy and high tempo pace to the game like he is known for. Tri-State have a solid roster coached by one of the greats. If they can build chemistry they will be a strong contender this season.
Last Season Record (4-4)
7. Trilogy
After a 4-4 2019 season, the only returning player for the Trilogy is James White. With new coach Stephen Jackson and NBA veteran Jarrett Jack as captain of the team Trilogy are looking to make a playoff push this season. Amir Johnson joins the team as a co-captain. Trilogy drafted Isaiah Briscoe and Metta Sandiford-Artest. Both of the drafted players bring a high level of play combined with experience. Trilogy are definitely a team to look out for as the season progresses, but need to prove they can gel as a team.
Last Season Record (4-4)
8. Ghost Ballers
Ricky Davis, Chris Johnson, and Mike Taylor all return for the fan favorite Ghost Ballers in the 2021 BIG3 season. Ricky Davis was the clear MVP of the team in 2019 averaging 13 points and leading the team in rebounds, steals and blocks. The Ghost Ballers added Craig Smith and Cheyne Gadson in the draft. They will look to bring more offensive prowess to the team. The Ghost Ballers are coached by George Iceman Gervin and he will have high expectations for his team this season.
Last Season Record (4-4)
9. Ball Hogs
After finishing a dissapointing last in the 2019 BIG3 standings with a 1-7 record the Ball Hogs have made some changes that have them poised for improvement. Bringing in Spencer Hawes and Leandro Barbosa to play alongside captain Brian Scalabrine adds a ton of experience to the roster. The Ball Hogs drafted Will McDonald and Jodie Meeks who will improve guard play and defensive stability. The Ball Hogs are opting to go with experience for the 2021 season which could pay dividends as the season goes on.
Last Season Record (1-7)
10. Aliens
The only new player added to the Aliens roster for the 2021 season is Renaldo Balkman who represents the Puerto Rican national team. After spending six seasons in the NBA Balkman looks to make his mark on the BIG3. The Aliens went 3-5 in 2019, but look to make strides with the already established chemistry between four of their five players. Captain, Greg Oden, and co-captains Shannon Brown and Brandon Rush round out the team with Andre Owens. Brandon Rush led the league in three pointers made with 20 so he will look to stay hot from the outside. The Aliens definitely have potential for a strong season.
Last Season Record (3-5)
11. Killer 3’s
The Killer 3’s are coming off a 5-3 2019 season, but they lost their captain Stephen Jackson who is now the coach of the Trilogy. New captain Frank Nitty is a walking highlight reel. Josh Powell, Donte Green, CJ Watson, and Eddy Curry all return for the Killer 3’s. Coached by the legendary Charles Oakley this team already has chemistry. They will need to find some offense with Stephen Jackson no longer on the roster, but this team definitely has the potential to surprise some people this season.
Last Season Record (5-3)
12. 3’s Company
Captain, DerMarr Johnson returns for the 2021 season with co-captains Drew Gooden, and Mario Chalmers. Ryan Hollins and Jeremy Pargo round out the team. Chalmers joins 3’s Company after playing for the 3 Headed Monsters last season. He brings experience and two NBA championships to the team, along with having a floor general to run the offense. 3’s Company may be doubted, but they have the motivation and talent to make a run this season.
