Killer 3’s Coach Charles Oakley had a luxury this past season in the form of super-sub Dominique Johnson, who is the 2023 BIG3 4th Man of the Year. Oakley went with a starting lineup of Franklin “Frank Nitty” Session, Donte Greene, and big man Josh Powell.
Johnson is a physical guard who can explode to the hole and knock down three-pointers. With him on the bench, Oakley had the option to give Frank Nitty a breather without losing much offensively. Considering that Frank Nitty expends as much energy as any human being alive when he’s on the court, that’s a necessity. And when Oakley really wanted to hit the nitrous, he could sub in Johnson for Powell, giving the Killer 3’s a nearly unstoppable Nitty/Greene/Johnson unit.
Johnson averaged 8.8 points during the Summer of Fire on 45.6% shooting from the field and 39.1% from three-point range, and his combination of explosiveness and versatility was a major reason the Killer 3’s were able to finish the year with a winning record.
