Tune in Saturday, August 28th at 3PM ET and 12PM PT on CBS for round 1 of the BIG3 Playoffs from the Bahamas
Game 1: Triplets vs 3 Headed Monsters
Triplets are coming off a week 8 defeat to Tri-State, but they had already secured their playoff spot in week 7. After being at the top of the standings the whole season, Triplets slid to number two with the week 8 loss. The likely MVP Iso Joe will have to step up in the first round of the playoffs in a tough matchup with 3 Headed Monsters. This season Iso Joe averaged 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.
3 Headed Monsters finished the regular season on a high with a win against Ghost Ballers. Reggie Evans and Kevin Murphy have been playing lights out in recent weeks. Murphy is one of four players to average more than 20 points per game this season. Reggie Evans averaged a double double, with 14.5 points and 11.6 rebounds. Evans will look to take advantage when the Triplets play a smaller lineup.
In recent weeks the Triplets have been playing a small lineup with Jamario Moon as the biggest player on the court. It will be interesting to see how the Triplets deal with the powerful Reggie Evans in the paint. The matchup to watch in the game is Iso Joe and Rashard Lewis. The reigning MVP Iso Joe will look to stay aggressive and put up another big game. Triplets won the regular season game against 3 Headed Monsters by a score of 51-45.
Game 2: Tri-State vs Trilogy
Tri-State ended the season at the top of the standings with a week 8 win over Triplets. Tri-State don’t have a number one option that they always go to. In week 8 they had four players in double digit scoring. The mid-season addition of Justin Dentmon has brought a new element to Tri-State that allows them to stretch the floor, but also get good work from big men Earl Clark and Larry Sanders down low.
Trilogy kept the fourth and final spot in the playoffs despite a week 8 loss to Killer 3’s. Trilogy had a big enough point differential to stay clear of Killer 3’s who finished 25 points off. Jarrett Jack has been a big addition for Trilogy this season. He averaged 19.7 points per game to lead Trilogy to the playoffs. Isaiah Briscoe has had a quiet second half of the season, but he is another player for Trilogy that can get his own shot and score significant points. James White is a strong three and D style of player that has been locking opponents down all season.
A matchup to watch for in this game is Jason Richardson on Jarrett Jack. These two both had strong regular seasons carrying momentum into a closely contested playoff matchup. Tri-State and Trilogy did not face-off in the regular season so this will be their first meeting of the year.
