Royce White secures title as the 2021 mouthpiece of the season
“I’m in your head. Don’t try and switch or have JAMARIO [Moon] guard me. First possession… me and you. One each!” Royce White said to MVP Joe Johnson in Instagram DMs ahead of week two Power vs Triplets matchup. Trash-talking was one of Royce’s biggest tactics letting everyone know, “THE CHAMP IS HERE,” this season.
After his NBA career, White brought his trash-talking and a level of physicality to the BIG3 that few could match. It didn’t matter who White’s opponent was, he made his intimidating presence felt. A combination he showcased while playing against the Enemies, Royce White’s former team, guarding Isaiah Austin who was considerably taller than him. White continued to target first overall pick Isaiah Austin in week one, where he was both physical and intense when guarding Austin and was seemingly able to force Enemies into a shot clock violation.
There weren’t many players that trash-talked back at Royce White, but Isaiah Austin gave him one of his best matches even shoving White when the two got face to face. 2021 was Austin’s first season in the BIG3 which is known for being lenient toward trash talking and physicality.
The height of White’s trash-talking came in week two against Triplets. Throughout the week, leading up to the game, White starting building the competition of the matchup between him and BIG3 MVP Joe Johnson through Instagram DMs to make sure they would go toe-to-toe in the game. White ended up with three early fouls on some questionable calls and picked up a technical. White could be heard from the bench yelling, “ball don’t lie” after Joe Johnson missed the free throw for the tech.
