Top Two Phoenix Tryouts Players Cash Their Tickets to the Combine in Las Vegas

Victor Evans and Jaron Hopkins proved that they deserve a spot in the BIG3 Combine.

The West Coast hoopers put on a show at Tryouts in Phoenix. From the start of tryouts, guys were throwing down monster dunks. Christon Staples, a former Harlem Globetrotter and current professional dunker put on a show during the individual drills. Combine ticket winner Victor Evans also threw down some big dunks.
In the one on one part of tryouts Asaad Woods consistently created space and knocked down shots with a clean jumper. Cullen Russo, a 6’9” forward also dominated during one on ones, using his size and showing an ability to knock down shots from all over the floor.
The three and four point shooting part of tryouts followed. The player that made the most outside shots was Cullen Russo at 24/50. Asaad Woods was second in the shooting at 20/40. Des Medder was third in the perimeter shooting at 19/40. The two combine ticket winners were also in the mix in the perimeter shooting. Victor Evans made 16/40 outside shots. Jaron Hopkins knocked down 18/40 shots from the outside.
The final part of tryouts was the 3 on 3 scrimmages, followed by the all star game with the top ten players. Scrimmages got intense. Carlos Johnson used his aggressiveness to consistently drive to the basket for easy layups. Jordan Vigil also showed some crafty handles to create space and knock down contested shots. Jaron Hopkins dominated during scrimmages and the all-star game. He was consistently getting to the basket and knocking down shots from the outside. Hopkins had a stretch of plays where he made four shots in a row, showing a versatile skillset.
Jaron Hopkins was one of the most versatile players at Phoenix tryouts. The 6’7″ stretch 2/3 showed some elite athleticism and range. He dominated during the scrimmages, getting to the basket at will while also showing the ability to hit shots from the outside. Hopkins has good length which allows him to guard multiple positions on defense. He most recently played professionally in Portugal. Hopkins played college basketball at Fresno State. In his second tryout, Victor Evans, the 6’4″ guard, proved he could ball. After missing out on a ticket in Dallas, Evans decided to give it another shot in Phoenix. He showed some crafty handles and a high level of athleticism. Evans also showed he could step out and hit both three and four pointers. He was poised and showed a high level of guard play during the scrimmages and all-star game. Evans played college basketball at Vanguard University. Almost in tears when he heard his name called as a winner, Victor Evans is ready to take advantage of this opportunity.
