Sweet-shooting swingman Hollis Thompson will make his BIG3 debut in 2023 as a member of 3’s Company.
Thompson is a shooter through and through. In three seasons at Georgetown, he shot a school-record 44% from beyond the arc. He continued to fill it up from deep in the NBA as a member of the 76ers, who were in their “process” period.
Those 76ers teams famously gave their players the green light to let it fly from three-point range, which suited Thompson just fine. His rookie year, he shot 40.1% from three (which led all rookies), and he shot 40.1% from deep again in his sophomore campaign.
In 256 games with the 76ers, which included 82 starts, over half of Thompson’s shot attempts came from beyond the arc, and he made a sizzling 38.9% of those deep attempts. He hasn’t played an NBA game since 2017, but has been playing consistently both in the G-League and internationally.
As the saying goes, you can never have enough shooting, and Thompson’s presence on the perimeter should give players like Michael Beasley more room to operate inside the arc. Also, here in the BIG3, we do have a four-point shot, which a sharpshooter like Thompson just might have a lot of fun with.
