Trilogy.
Meet the first dynasty in BIG3 History. After winning the second championship in team history in 2021, Trilogy repeated in 2022, taking home their third overall BIG3 Championship. What made their accomplishment even more impressive was that Team Captain Jarret Jack, one of the top players in BIG3 History, stepped away from the league before the 2022 season. That they were able to repeat after losing a player of his caliber was truly astonishing. Trilogy will run it back for the 2023 campaign – as the saying goes, don’t fix what isn’t broken.
Stepping into the Captain role was James “Flight” White. White is the only player to win three championships in BIG3 history, has a BIG3 Defensive Player of the Year award to his name, and his combination of size, athleticism, and a beautiful three-point shot has allowed him to be one of the league’s most consistent scorers.
White’s Co-Captains are Tri State big man Earl Clark, an athlete who can stretch the floor while standing at 6’10, and Co-Captain Amir Johnson, a 6’9 big man with a soft touch around the rim who also happens to weigh in at 253 pounds – if he gets the ball down low, the opposing team has problems.
Isaiah Briscoe, a shot-maker with a prodigious handle, will also return for the 2023 campaign. He had a breakout 2022 season, and was in many ways the key to Trilogy’s ability to repeat without Jack. He’s an absolute monster off the dribble who’s nearly impossible to keep out of the lane and has ludicrous strength around the rim for a man his size. His jumper can come and go, but he’s plenty difficult to stop when it’s not falling; when it is, he’s basically impossible to contain. Rounding out the roster is the ultra-reliable swingman David Hawkins.
Stephen Jackson has won the BIG3 Championship in each of his two years as a Head Coach, which is a pretty nice resume item. We’ll see if he and Trilogy can get the three-peat in 2023.
