After playing for the Ball Hogs last season, Derrick Byars returns to the BIG3 as a member of 3’s Company, which drafted him with the 15th overall pick. Byars had been a first-round pick (seventh overall) last year, and he averaged 13.4 points per game (tied for 10th in the league). He hit 13 three-pointers (tied for fifth) and was one of just 12 players in the league last year to make a four-point shot.
Byars began his college career at Virginia but later transferred to Vanderbilt, where he was named the 2007 SEC Player of the Year. The former second-round draft pick of the Portland Trail Blazers has been in camp with several teams and played for the San Antonio Spurs in 2012. In 2009, he was named to the NBA Developmental League All-Star Game. Byars has also played professionally overseas, in Germany, France, Greece, Russia, Belgium, Israel and Puerto Rico.
