In case you didn’t know it, 3-on-3 basketball is the number one urban team sport in the world. FIBA, basketball’s international federation, continues its full-court press to get the half-court game into the Olympics. FIBA has been pushing to bring 3-on-3 from the streets to the world stage, and it’s getting close.

Well this summer, BIG3 will give the sport its biggest stage yet.

The new 3-on-3 halfcourt basketball league founded by entertainment icon Ice Cube has signed NBA legends Rick Barry, Clyde Drexler and Rick Mahorn to serve as coaches.

The league, known as The BIG3 and scheduled to begin play in June, ‎announced Wednesday that Barry, Drexler and Mahorn will join Gary Payton, George Gervin and Allen Iverson as coaches -- with Iverson, at 41, scheduled to serve as player/coach for the league's inaugural season.

The BIG3. Where the Legends Play.

Launching June 24th, 2017, BIG3 is professional basketball league, played in a 3-on-3 format and featuring veteran NBA players like Allen Iverson, Rashard Lewis, Kenyon Martin, Mike Bibby and Chauncey Billups. Legends like Gary Payton and George Gervin will coach.

The BIG3 was co-founded by Ice Cube and Jeff Kwatinez. The league's President and Commissioner is former NBA Player's Association Deputy Executive Director Roger Mason Jr.

 

(NEW YORK, NY) Jan. 25, 2017 — The BIG3, the new, professional 3 on 3 half court basketball league, announced today the signings of Clyde Drexler, Rick Barry and Rick Mahorn as coaches. Drexler, Barry and Mahorn join Gary Payton, George “The Iceman” Gervin, and Allen Iverson, who is a player/coach, as coaches for the league’s inaugural season.
